Job Description

Reporting directly to an Assistant Director for Residence life, the Resident Director (RD) serves as an active and visible residential community member who is responsible for facilitating an engaging residential experience that is highly relational; fosters curiosity and learning; centers well-being; and supports students in successfully finding their way.

The RD supports the residential experience by providing comprehensive management of 1-2 residence halls, or multiple apartment units that house approximately 230-600 residents and supervises 8-20 Resident Assistants (RA). Primary duties and responsibilities involve residential engagement and student learning; building administration and operations; supervision and management; student advising and leadership development; crisis management and student support; as well as organizational leadership.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and experience working in residence life or a university setting. Demonstrated planning, administrative, organizational and supervisory skills with an ability to manage multiple priorities. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills with the ability to communicate and interact effectively with students, faculty, staff, and external constituencies. Demonstrated commitment to creating a culture of belonging, academic success, and inclusive communities.

Preferred Qualifications:

An advanced degree in student affairs leadership, higher education administration, or an equivalent field. Previous residence life experience in a leadership role. Proven ability to address the needs of student groups and staff. Previous experience with learning communities, collaboration with faculty and other campus constituents. Ability to promote a positive residential culture and community. Experience with student conduct, group advising, crisis response, behavior interventions, program coordination, and recruitment and training for student groups.
